The Suspicious Cheese Lords
Music for Advent and the Christmas Season
Saturday
December 22
7 p.m.
Guest organist: Benjamin J. LaPrairie (Assistant Director of Music at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception)
Join the Cheese Lords in their annual celebration of Renaissance music for Advent and Christmas. Selections include favorites like the sublime Ave Maria of Robert Parsons and the rousing Gaudete Christus et natus and E la don don. We complement the familiar with rarely‐heard, but equally deserving works of composers like Giovanni Maria Nanino and Pedro de Cristo, and Slovenian‐born composers Jacob Handl and Georg (Jurij) Prenner. Our guest organist is Benjamin J. LaPrairie, who will play works of Bach.
The Suspicious Cheese Lords strive to broaden the global repertoire and listenership of choral music by unearthing forgotten works, breathing new life into familiar pieces, and by creating new compositions of their own. Specializing in early music, this unique brotherhood’s recordings, concerts, workshops, and liturgies provide a scholarly yet accessible interpretation of music from all ages, educating and inspiring fans and future musicians alike.
